Elyos vs Asmodian - The Two Factions Explained

The central rivalry of AION is Elyos versus Asmodian - two factions locked in an endless war across the broken world of Atreia. If you're picking a side in AION 2, here's who they really are, why they hate each other, and how they differ.

⚖️ The key twist: the Elyos and Asmodians are the same people. They were one race until the Cataclysm shattered the world and stranded them on opposite halves of it.

🌗 One people, split by a broken world

When the Tower of Eternity was destroyed, Atreia was torn into two hemispheres and its people divided with it. The survivors on the sunlit lower half became the Elyos; those trapped in the darker upper half became the Asmodians. Same origin, radically different fate - and each side blames the other for the disaster that split them.

☀️ The Elyos - children of the light

The Elyos live in Elysea, the light-filled lower half of the world. Surrounded by warmth, growth, and abundant Aether, they developed vibrant, radiant appearances - and are often considered the more classically beautiful of the two peoples. Some Elyos even bear feathered, angel-like wings.

They follow the Seraphim Lords, the Empyrean Lords who sided with the light after the Cataclysm. Culturally, the Elyos tend to see themselves as the rightful, "pure" inheritors of Aion's world.

🌑 The Asmodians - forged in shadow

The Asmodians were cast into the harsher, darker upper half, ruling from the fortress-city of Pandaemonium. Centuries in a hostile, lightless world reshaped them: pale skin, glowing eyes adapted to darkness, and a more fearsome, "demonic" silhouette. The Elyos dismiss them as "Demons" - but that appearance is the mark of survival, not evil.

They follow the Shedim Lords. Asmodian culture leans toward strength, endurance, and defiance - the pride of a people who were dealt the harder hand and endured anyway.

  • Home: Elyos → Elysea (sunlit). Asmodians → Pandaemonium / the upper world (shadowed).
  • Look: Elyos → radiant, angelic, feathered wings. Asmodians → pale, glowing-eyed, darker/demonic, leathery wings.
  • Rulers: Elyos → Seraphim Lords. Asmodians → Shedim Lords. (Both descend from the original Twelve Empyrean Lords.)
  • Vibe: Elyos → light, beauty, "chosen" identity. Asmodians → resilience, strength, survivor's pride.
  • Shared enemy: both still face the Balaur - the dragon empire that threatens all of Atreia.
🎮 Which side should you pick? In AION the two factions historically share the same classes, so it's about aesthetic and identity, not power: Elyos for the bright, angelic fantasy; Asmodian for the darker, edgier look. Playing with friends? Roll the same faction - you can't fight alongside the other side.

⚔️ Why they're still at war in AION 2

Two centuries after the Cataclysm, the wound hasn't closed. Each faction believes the other doomed the world, and both fight for control of the contested space between the halves - the Abyss - while the Balaur threat looms over everyone. That three-way tension is the engine behind AION 2's open-world PvP and faction warfare.
